Well, one only has to look at the variety of different species on Earth to get an idea of how varied life can be... and also how similar it can be, given that many species evolved separately but share a lot of similar traits. If the environment on another planet is the same as that of Earth, I don't think it's far-fetched to assume that life there might resemble what we have here. But, at the same time, given the diversity we have on one planet, it could also be very different.

Hazard Team Proposal; Sorry for the delay... Will start on the 14th of Feb

January 27 2013
The Hazard Team Revamp

Hello all,

For many months the PVP Department has been dormant, this is due to a lack of interest in the Stonewall PVP community.

Previously we had many members who were unhappy with the state of PVP within the game. This issue extends to Stonewall PVP as throughout my time as Combat officer there have been many complaints in regards to Fleet Members being over powered. Unfortunately as this is such a large fleet we all have different experiences, builds and gear in regards to PVP and this has allowed members to excel were others have not. This is not a fault of the individuals wanting to become involved in PVP, it’s just some players have access to different gear and resources to ensure their ship is either OP or is built well for PVP. This has caused much friction with previous events held and therefore it is my intention to attempt to alleviate this stigma some players in our fleet have, including myself.

Sometime ago there was a group of players in the fleet who would set up daily events and unfortunately they would take x number of fleet members into the event and the fight would be one sided. This hit the nail in the coffin for the Hazard Team and many fleet members did not want to participate due to constant losses.

Currently, I am attempt to bring some changes which will make PVP fun again for the fleet. This involves giving fleet members guidance as to how to improve their builds and how to counter act certain abilities. To this end the following document details the new steps we will be taking to bring the Hazard Team back up to scratch.

NB: This is intended to be a short guide as to how the Hazard team will function from now on.

Revamping the Hazard Team

The Hazard Team Group on the Stonewall Site includes many players, it is my intention to wipe the group and start from the beginning with all current interested parties. With this done we can start the team truly from scratch, taking in interested players, who would like to participate in Stonewall PVP. The recent survey completed indicates there is, although a small number interest in PVP which is the largest reason for the change. This has resulted in taking a cold hard look at how the Hazard Team is run. As a result I propose the following:

Moving away from the current state

In order to change the Hazard Team and respectively PVP for the fleet, to become a fun environment for players I need your feedback and suggestions. Many of the Ideas I am bringing to the table will hopefully achieve a fun state for all, however we are open to criticism and change. I am willing to address anyone’s questions and make any changes as seen fit by the fleet as a whole.

Introduction of Divisions

The idea behind the divisions is to separate the “hard-core” from the casual PVP players. What this means is that anyone who wants to just have some fun in PVP can tag along for arranged events to fight other players in stonewall. Casual players will have access to documents, which contain information about builds, which are intended for Hard-Core Pvpers to read information to gain a better understanding of PVP. However, I cannot stress this enough, please do not take PVP events you are participating in seriously.

There will be new Events which will be geared for the casual player who are only interested in a bit of fun and more serious events for the Hard-Core Pvpers. If you find you are losing or doing less damage than other participants then feel free to contact myself or someone within the combat department who can help with your builds and skill sets. Instead of feeling upset at the loss pro-actively ask so we can help you in some way to improve you build and ensure you are having fun regardless of your skill level.

To this end Hard-Core Players and Casual Players will have access to the following:

•Documents detailing information about builds; including gear, abilities and skills
•Document giving detailed information in regards to counter acting-abilities
•Access to PVP events especially geared towards the casual player and the Hard core player
•Monthly drop in sessions for the Casual Player (This may increase depending on FC’s)
•Monthly Meetings for the Hard Core players
•Tournaments (anyone can participate in)
•Events for Hard-Core/Casual Player
•Builds, abilities and skill sets (posted in the Hazard Team group)

I am hoping that this will satisfy everyone’s perceptions of Stonewall PVP.

Division Names

These are up for grabs. Within the aforementioned divisions there will be wings. Each wing will have its own name so feel free to come up with some names for the new wings ;)

Updates to the Game Changes (Monthly Report)

I will be writing monthly reports for the Hazard Team group letting you know of any major changes coming to PVP. Although I must admit Cryptic are limited on their information currently, however they do occasionally make PVE changes that affect PVP Gameplay.

Events

There will be two different event types these will be for the Hard-Core and the Casual Player. The Casual events will be marked in Green on the website with the attachment of (Casual) at the end of the name and the reverse for the (Hard-Core) Player, which will be marked in Red. An event for (Anyone) will be marked in Amber/Yellow

The following Events will take place within Stonewall Fleet in the coming months:

•PVP Practice (Hard-Core) Once a Month
•Tournament Training (Hard-Core) Once a Month
•PVP Practice (Casual) Once a Month
•PVP Shuttle Event (Anyone) Once a Month, possible more
•General PVP (Anyone) Bi-Weekly
•Tournament training (Hard-core) Bi-Monthly basis
•General Tournaments for the Fleet on a Tri-Monthly Basis

If there are any events you would like to see please feel free to contact me. I will try anything new, however if the turn-out is continuingly limited the event will be discontinued.

Boot Camp

Currently I will be joining Boot Camp to become a leader. This involves training and learning new skills and abilities in regards to PVP. This is a great opportunity for the Hard-Core PVPers also to participate and learn. I will post details of this in the Hazard Team.

Points of Contact

@SBOSlayer in game and on the website

To conclude

I cannot stress this enough, any comments or suggestions are always welcome, however please bare in mind that the department has limited resources so these changes may take some time. Please feel free to contact one of the officers or preferably myself if you would be interested in helping out with the PVP aspects within Stonewall.

NB: I am in a UK time Zone I will try and make some of the times more USA friendly, however I am hoping some new Fleet Captains will assist with this as I have quite a hectic schedule between University and working.

One suggestion that I'd like to make is that we start utilizing Deep Space Stonewall...

Brilliant! In the same email/MoTDs that say "Please go easy on the store ground weapons/....", we could also add "by the way guys, there are tons of provisions over on DSS, feel free to temporarily move over there to buy some if you're in a rush".

It'd not only add to our provisions available to SW, it'd also help to increase DSS activity. Now if only we could do the same thing with HNR. lol.

To extend this just a bit to "sentient" life elsewhere in the universe....

Life on earth is carbon based. More molecules can be formed from carbon than by all of the other elements combined. So to me, it seems rather logical that life elsewhere in the universe to be carbon based.

Also, from a physiological perspective, it's reasonable to conclude that at least some of that life will resemble humans. As with most life on earth, our sensory organs are located in close proximity to "controlling" organ, the brain. Also, to interact with its environment, an organism needs at minimum of 2 appendages for mobility and 2 appendages for object manipulation. Of course, an organism can have 4 legs or 4 arms or more. But, 2 of each is an optimal number for efficient function. So while "life" on other planets will be strange, wonderful and terrifying, I also have no doubt that some of it will have many characteristics as humans.

My view has always been that life elsewhere would be radically different, but you make a compelling argument.

It always seemed strange to me when people would question whether or not other stars had planets around them. Why would our solar system be unique in a universe with billions of galaxies, each with billions of stars? And now we're discovering that planets seem to be the norm around stars, especially stars that are similar to our sun.
