Re: Danger of the downward spiral

February 07 2013
I too lived in SoCal for a good number of years, ymmv but I have heard more negative opinions of AC models than positive. But that is not the thrust (pardon the pun) of my post.

I went from a 25 year career as a working professional actor to academia. I study the History of Sexuality in the West in the Middles Ages and Early Modern periods. I changed careers because I felt what suffices to be the gay community is vastly ignorant of its very real history, a history that extends back before the words "gay" or "homosexual" existed. A history that goes back to well before a vociferous minority in the Roman Catholic Church made up the now widely accepted (inaccurate) meaning of the word "sodomite."

I volunteer for the Trevor Project because every life I help save is precious and needs to know that WE have always been here. I talk about Stonewall and before, fighting back, not letting the sorry bastards get (us) down. I talk about ACT UP, Gay Men's Health Crisis, Harvey Milk, and John E. Boswell, whose book literally saved my life when I was a teenager. I talk about those of us who are here and I talk about the ones we lost. It is not just a job for me, it is a passion because there are still people out there who could care less whether we live or die, and some of them are politicians.

I'm not angry, I am determined. Do what feels right, have a healthy sex life and don't you fucking dare feel guilty. Just be safe and smart about it. Gay Pride is not about expiating shame, it is about owning it and dealing with it. Shame is a universal concept that Gay Pride cannot deliver us from because everyone feels shame at some point/s in their lives.

Most important is to know how to accept yourself for who you are, twink, bear, otter...whatever your flavor of subculture, own it. I will accept you without borders. Love the cisgendered because they are the next ones in line in the fight for universal human rights...and their time is coming quickly.

We erect too many damned borders; age, appearance, morphology, butch, femme, macho...gay gents, bluntly put, we all like dick. Something about our own gender makes us fire on all cylinders. There is nothing new about who we are, and as a historian I can authoritatively say conclusively this is true. Same goes for the ladies.

Gods, I ramble on...but human attraction is human attraction and from the dawn of history men have been getting it on with men, ladies have been getting it on with ladies, even our straight brethren have been doing the horizontal mambo since before recorded history began.

There is too little love on this dirtball we call Earth. Make some love today, hug your friends, kiss your mom, smile at a stranger (it may confuse them, but fuck it).

Love,

I know you guys actually meant BEST (not exclusively Klingon) department and just felt it was so obvious it didn't need specifying. Totally agree that PvE is a really close second though!

I thought I'd just make sure it was clear for any of the newer members.... :-P

Zoril Sehl

she was born on Andoria to two wonder parents who were both doctors that incouraged her to pursue those types of interests
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

That is what Starfleet Intelligence has in her public profile she is actually from the mirror universe when she came aboard with her sienor officers on the ISS Cerberus after being debriefed after being picked up by the very ship that rescued her and her officers Starfleet Intelligence and has risen quickly through the ranks of Starfleet her parents were actually killed when the ship they were on was destroyed by a small aliiance taskforce she has since been providing intell on any mirror ships that are brought through thanks to the tholians she recently hot her hands on a Tholian Recluse Carrier and named it after the nickname she was given back in the Mirror Universe she is always on the look out for those that would try to collect the ten million gold pressed Latnium bounty on her head after leaving the way she did which was concidered High Treason. She has joined the Stonewall fleet and hass been quiet but has been quietly helping them upgrade their fleet's starbase. she has a particular hatred for the borg because her sister was assimilated by the borg her remaining sienor officers and her new officers have become a well meshed crew and even Admiral Janeway has helped with her liberated borg engineering officer Leighann who used to be a member on board the USS Constituion when it was lost to the borg. When she was a loyal member of the Empire in the mirror universe she was a member of the elite 12th MACO squad a fact that she tends to hide but she wears her armor as a point of pride

Re: Character Biography

February 06 2013
Name: Aiden Davoi
Species: Human

Born August 7, 2382 (Stardate 59599.3) in Seattle, Earth, Aiden is the only child of Ethan and Sara Davoi. Master Chief Petty Officer Ethan Davoi was a senior engineering superintendent—formerly a Warp Core Technician aboard the USS Voyager—assigned to Starfleet R&D due to his familiarization with both early transwarp and quantum stlipstream technologies. Dr. Sara Davoi was a research scientist and team lead in theoretical propulsion design at Utopia Planitia tasked with analyzing and expanding on technologies discovered and subsequently brought back from the Delta quadrant. Though Aiden grew up on Earth, he spent much of his youth around starships and warp drives due to the nature of his parent’s work. His parents recognized his aptitude for engineering early and actively encouraged his development along those lines. By the age of 14, Aiden was already a competent pilot. Aiden's acceptance to Starfleet Academy in 2400, sponsored by long time family friend and mentor Admiral Kathryn Janeway, made him the first commissioned officer in his family—an accomplishment that made his father particularly proud.

Career:
Prior to the Borg invasion 2409, Aiden’s Starfleet career was lackluster. An Academy graduate of the Class of 2404 dual majoring in Astrophysics and Quantum Mechanics and Starship Engine Design, he was most noted for his involvement with the Academy Gymnastics Team and the Flight Demonstration Team, Nova Squadron. Though he was an excellent student and an accomplished engineer and pilot, his instructors never seriously considered him command material.

Post graduation, Aiden served at Utopia Planitia involved in a variety of projects including the continued development of transwarp drive technology, the adaptation of quantum slipstream drive technology to existing Starfleet vessels, and propulsion modifications focusing on increased efficiency and survivability. His only deep space assignments include maintenance officer overseeing mission readiness of auxiliary spacecraft aboard the USS Beale and warp system specialist aboard the USS Strahl. Aiden did not see combat on the Klingon Front until after taking command of the USS Strahl in 2409 at the Battle of Vega.

Since taking command of the USS Odin, Aiden has become a prominent figure within the affairs of the Federation as an accomplished diplomat and distinguished combat veteran—his most recent accomplishment, Starfleet Attaché to Mol'Rihan. He has cultivated strong diplomatic ties to the Reman independence movement and earned a reputation as a protector of the Defari. As part of Stonewall Fleet, under discretionary detachment from Starfleet Operations Command, he leads a task group of fourteen vessels making up the 9th Expeditionary Task Force.

Aiden is currently romantically involved with Rear Admiral Malco Arion—joined Trill, commanding officer of the USS Belias, and Vice Group Commander of the 9th ETF. His closest friends include Commander Kelsi “Three” Ty and Commander Orin Ryce.

Personality:
Aiden thrives under stress, is a patriot, and a strong believer in the ideals of the Federation. He is as much a soldier as an engineer and will dutifully take up arms in defense of the Federation believing that sometimes the ends do justify the means. Aiden has an accepting and easy-going nature that has lent itself to his casual command style, taking a philosophy of “protective older brother” as opposed to the more stern traditional military hierarchy of most Starfleet vessels. Though he never seriously considered command as a career option, Aiden has never been more at home than he is as commanding officer of the USS Odin.

U.S.S. Odin
NCC-93401, Galaxy-class (refit) Fleet Exploration Cruiser

First commissioned in 2375 at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards above Mars, this Federation cruiser first saw combat in the final weeks of the Dominion War—including the last offensive push to Cardassia. Following the war, the Odin received its first refit and much of her service revolved around minor exploration and mapping, diplomatic missions, and post-war Dominion observation in the Gamma Quadrant. The destruction of the Hobus star saw the USS Odin redeployed along the unstable Romulan boarder, participating in coordinated humanitarian and diplomatic missions in response to the disaster and subsequent flow of refugees from unstable Romulan/Reman space.

The USS Odin was assigned to Battle Group Omega following the thwarted invasion of the Vega Colony by the Borg in 2409 and nearly destroyed during a subsequent encounter with the Borg near NGC-2447 in the Mutara Sector. The heroic dedication and sacrifice of the officers and crew managed to save the ship and it limped back to the battle group and ultimately towed back to Sol for its second refit. During that refit, Captain Aiden Davoi took command and implemented several modifications to the ship that resulted in increased auxiliary spacecraft support—thus, the 901st Tactical Fighter Squadron was permanently attached to the USS Odin. Additional modifications included Aegis Technological Research Systems, modified Borg systems, enhanced MK XII weapons arrays, and limited quantum slipstream and transwarp capabilities.

The ship now serves as flagship of the 9th Expeditionary Task Force on discretionary detachment with Stonewall Fleet under the command of Vice Admiral Aiden Davoi.

Dedication: "Not all those who wander are lost."
Motto: "Fortuna audax"

Auxiliary Spacecraft: 10 personal shuttles (5 Type-8, 3 Type-9, 2 Type-11), 3 Danube-class Runabouts, 3 Argo-class Transports, 1 Delta-class Runabout (USS Strahl, NCC-93401-A), 1 Aeon-class Timeship (USS Epoch, NCV-93401-B ), 12 Shuttlepods, and 24 Peregrin-class Fighters, 12 Valkyrie-class Interceptors; Captain's Yacht

Re: Classical Love Poetry (translated from Greek or Latin)

February 06 2013
This is the poem in original Latin. it may be found in the Anthologia Latina (No. 795)

Lumina coua genae flaui flexura capilli
In Ganymede suo flamma fuere loui.
luppiter in puerum quaerens sibi pauca licere
In puero statuit cuncta licere deus.
Oblitusque poli curas et murmura diuum
Et linguam laesae coniugis atque louem
Iliacum tulit ad superos, ad sidera sidus,
Et se tunc tandem credidit esse deum.
Vtque puer pellex uisu tactuque liceret,
Oscula nocte loui, pocula luce dabat.

translation hotes: In Latin the I at the front of a name or word is pronounced like the letter U in English. So Iuppiter is Upiter, or more aptly like the Spanish ll. Better represented by YU-piter. All letter C's are hard [k] sounds all letter G's are hard as well [guh]. Where you see instances of puero or puerum, puero= boy, puerum= boys [pl]. The letter r's are trilled, the best description of how to reproduce a trilled r is to place the tip of your tongue on the back of your teeth and say "errr." The letter V always pronounced like the letter W, so Vita is pronounced (Wee-tah).

Finally, dipthongs:

ae- as in ai in aisle: cārae, saepe
au- as ou in house: aut, laudō
ei- as ei in reign: deinde
eu- as Latin e + u, pronounced rapidly as a single syllable: seu (say-oo).
oe- as oi in oil: coepit, proelium
ui- as in Latin u + i, spoken as a single syllable like Spanish muy, or like English gooey, pronounced quickly as a single syllable. This diphthong occurs only in: huius, cuius, huic, cui, hui.

Welcome to brain overload.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Event!

February 06 2013
Alright, according to 3 people I have spoken to today, the demo has been bugged! This happens from time to time, the Devs release new stuff and they break more things that they fix. It this case they released more stuff to the foundry since Thursday, so I am guessing that is what broke the mission.

The Scavenger Hunt Demo has been revised, and the final clue is an entirely different person and location. Hopefully this will resolve the bug that made completion of the demo impossible.

i think we need some new functionality for the site. right next to the 'thank you' button we need an 'electrocute user' button and a 'dancing with denis' button. the lucky recipient of that button has to endure a one hour square dancing session with denis while listening to bagpipes.

and...i wasn't just a nerd, i was one of those teacher's pet kinds of nerds.the kind everybody hated. LOL.
