Re: STONEWALL AT SEA Information

February 27 2013
Well, after the Triumph debacle, I will certainly not give Carnival my business, that is the second time in three years they have had serious problems at sea with one of their ships. Added to my post before that means I will not go if the selection is Carnival.

I voted for Norweigian/Miami option.

Whoop, forgot about this despite it having been the message of the day for some time now. I'll be submitting my design tonight, after stopping for fabric at Mood, and accessorizing at the Macy's wall.

Oh noes! Sorry to hear things hit a brick wall. I was really looking forward to this. Still, I'd love to be kept in the loop about the independent project and would love to contribute in any small way I can. Like Voleron, I'll be sending you my e-mail via PM.

Re: Starbase Diversity RP Update

February 26 2013
I apologise for the lack of updates about the RP. There have been many discussions behind the scenes concerning it and as a result the RP will no longer be part of Stonewall, but rather an independent entity. I will also no longer be posting any updates here (at least for the time being), so if you would like more information about the RP going forward, please feel free to contact me personally. Anyone who is still interested in joining us is more than welcome to do so.

Once again I thank you all for your input and enthusiasm and I'm sorry that we will not be able to go forward as planned.

Recap: Seven Years' Bad Luck

February 26 2013
Part One

The Waverider rejoined the USS Sally Ride just before it arrived at the Hadriepsis research facility. The facility is best known for its state-of-the-art Borg liberation center, but it's also the site of cutting-edge research on all aspects of Borg physiology and psychology. The Ride was being sent to pick up a cadre of newly liberated officers to be stationed on Starbase Diversity, as well as some experimental technology just becoming ready for deployment.

However, when the ship arrived at the starbase facility, it didn't answer their hails. Life scans indicated that the station's personnel were all present and in good health, and there didn't appear to be any technical problems. Suspicious of the situation, Captain Orenn ordered yellow alert.

Some explanation presented itself when a spatial anomaly appeared on the opposite side of the station from the Ride. Attempts to divine the nature of the anomaly were stonewalled by the ship's computer, which claimed to be guarding classified information. At least one trait of the anomaly quickly became clear when it deposited a starship in space that hadn't been there before.

The ship appeared to be of Federation design, but no one could quite identify the class. Its IFF beacon was also unrecognizable to the crew. It immediately fired up its transporters, beaming personnel and cargo out of certain areas of the station. It ignored hails, just as the station had done -- at least until the Ride used a tractor beam to block its transporters.

At that point, the captain of the ship, a weathered human named Captain Derreth, deigned to parley with the Ride. He identified his ship as the "ISS Minotaur," which meant little to most but a lot to Orenn. Derreth insisted that his only interest was in extracting his people from the facility and leaving, but Captain Orenn refused to let him make off with the Federation equipment that he was obviously beaming aboard his ship by the crateful.

The Ride also beamed a team aboard the station, to retake control of the decks that were occupied by Terrans. This put a thick layer of frost over the negotiations with Captain Derreth, however. The team easily regained control of the station's tactical systems, but were immediately set upon when they attempted to retake the command deck. Between the weapons fire aboard the station and the blocked transporters, it became clear that Derreth wasn't going to make a clean getaway, and the furious Terran closed communications.

Deciding that his priority was to prevent the Terrans from escaping with whatever they were after, Orenn immediately ordered the Sciences department to act on their plans to collapse the spatial anomaly the Minotaur had used to arrive. The Terran ship moved to protect its escape route with lethal force, opening fire immediately. The Sally Ride's recent upgrades and a considerable amount of recent battle damage to the Minotaur put the two ships on a fairly even footing... until the Ride's team aboard the station retook the command deck and joined in with the starbase's defensive systems.

Unexpectedly, the Minotaur exploded. Examination of combat logs revealed that as soon as it became clear they had no hope of escape, Derreth scuttled his own ship, detonating its warp core in a suicidal attempt to cause the maximum damage to both Hadriepsis and the Ride.

Orenn's report to Admiral Walker was inconclusive. It's not clear what the Minotaur was after, and clearing up that uncertainty is the top priority the Admiral has handed down. The Terran personnel captured aboard the starbase -- most of whom appear to be mirror duplicates of starbase personnel -- are the obvious first place to go for information. There is also considerable concern about the conduct of one of the Ride's engineers, a Lt.Cmdr Night. He has been scheduled for special counseling sessions with tr'Dar.

Recap: The Gift

February 26 2013

While en route to the Hadriepsis facility, the USS Sally Ride detected an older diplomatic code, broadcasting from a backwater world. The signal didn't appear to have a particularly high priority, but the Ride was still the nearest Federation vessel, so the ship sent an away team aboard its Waverider shuttle to investigate.

The team arrived at the planet unsure what to expect. It appeared to be uninhabited, save for a single artificial structure that was the signal's point of origin. Given their recent history, this naturally put the crew on their guard.

The structure was technologically basic and its controls unsophisticated, but its age was difficult to determine. Chief Engineer was trying to decide whether to simply deactivate the beacon and leave when security officer Cor inadvertently stepped onto a weight-sensitive platform. Separate devices surrounding the signaling array activated. A rudimentary recording began to play, informing the officers that they were to be tested as "ambassadors of peace"... and given a gift.

This seemed foreboding, but minutes went by with no further incident. Lt.Cmdr Zoril beamed down to provide extra firepower in case of an ambush, but there was none. The device appeared not to work. Nonetheless, Lt. Benton became increasingly frightened and insisted that the group depart, in spite of Officer Cor's reckless disregard for any potential danger. Concerned for Zoril's safety, Sthyr sided with Benton, and the team beamed back to the shuttle.

Back aboard, the officers' behavior quickly deteriorated from merely out of character to outright dangerous. Benton began panicking, imagining foes in every sensor shadow, and taking rash action to "escape" with no regard for the chain of command. Cor latched on to these supposed enemies, but immediately wanted to drive the shuttle into pitched combat. Sthyr increasingly lost all interest in command of the mission, except as it pertained to the focus of his every thought, Zoril.

For her part, the combat medic was forced to sedate Benton and Cor, as their confrontation threatened them all. Sthyr's attention, which became more and more obviously romantic, seems to have been less unwelcome, as the pair made their way into the shuttle's stateroom for some time alone.

This was interrupted by Benton, whose elevated adrenaline pulled him out of unconsciousness early. Locking the others out of the control area, he attempted to throw the Waverider into evasive maneuvers against its imagined foes. Still drugged, though, the Lieutenant could barely maintain control of his chair, much less the shuttle, and nearly crashed when another ship actually did appear.

The aged freighter swept the shuttle with a mysterious form of energy, and abruptly, the psychological effects on the crew disappeared. They retained perfect memories of their bizarre behavior, but had no explanation for it. Save a message left by the freighter before it disappeared:

"We're sorry to say that you have not proven yourselves worthy as ambassadors of peace. However, we sincerely hope that you enjoyed your gift."

Re: Older Star Trek Games

February 26 2013
Star Trek: Judgment Rites was the first Star Trek game I ever played. It came on 3.5" high density double sided (so spiffy!!) disks. It was a pain for me because I was new to computers at the time, and it required manually configuring my Sound Blaster audio card to work. Remember DOS 6.22 and the config.sys/autoexec.bat files? I remember "L" locked weapons in space and "E" gave you an emergency boost of power...and "D" let you concentrate your repair work on a specific system you chose. You navigated around on some awful bead looking starmap.

@SitNataan: No problem! You gave a pretty accurate description actually. The Morassia mission you mention is one of the longer missions because you have to walk back and forth between all the areas. The most god awful mission there was the one with the musical organs. You have to play them in a certain order while walking around on a floor that moved based on what you played. I HATED that mission. Come to think of it, I remember just firing the 10 photon torpedoes at a ship and full phasers and it was like an instant win in battle.

I have a total weakness for 4x games.

And yes, even if it's a particularly uninspired MOO knockoff, I still put in endless hours in it.

There's a couple of fan sequel projects in awfully early stages of pre-pre-Alpha. The prettiest, by far is http://www.startreksupremacy.com/">Star Trek Supremacy.

Note that it hasn't been updated since, oh - 2009. So someone get that man a Red Bull.
