Re: Florida Binational Gay Couple Gets First Green Card

July 01 2013

Two men from Florida are the first binational, married, same-sex couple granted a greencard in the wake of DOMA's death this week. The Supreme Court on Wednesday narrowly threw out the Defense of Marriage Act, which amongst its many injuries, made it impossible for those who marry a foreign-born same-sex person from sponsoring their spouse for a greencard (the reason: DOMA demanded the federal government not recognize state-sanctioned gay marriages). Two days later, a male couple from Florida, who married in a state or country where same-sex nuptials are recognized, benefited from SCOTUS's decision, according to immigration attorney Lavi Soloway. The couple has not yet been identified by name.

Fantastic! This will be such a huge relief for so many families out there!

No problem at all, Lars. My time calculation is that you are 6 hours ahead of my time zone which is US Eastern. I am really glad you decided to roll a couple of toons on our server. Welcome! :cheer: It's almost 9:00 your time so I will log in to SWTOR to see if I can catch you on. If not, I'll try again tomorrow or you can tell me another day that will work for you better. :)

EDIT: Looks like I missed you. I'll try again tomorrow. :)

Okidokie.
I have created two characters on the Harbinger server which I would like to get invited.

Tschaikovsky for the Republic (a Jedi consular).
Charlotte-Morte for the Empire (a Sith inquisitor).

I'll probably be on the entire day today (gotta love sundays :D).

By the way, I have never been in a guild in SWTOR, so sorry if I come across noobish :p

Unfortunately, it does matter what server you are on Lars because both of the SWTOR guilds are located on The Harbinger server in the US. You can start new toons on the Harbinger server if you'd like to become a member of the guilds but EA/Bioware made it impossible to transfer toons between European and US servers (what a pain in the you know where!). I believe this was probably because they crammed everyone from the Asian/Oceanic servers on the US servers when they shut those servers down. This has made it quite difficult to complete missions because there are just too many people trying to complete them at the same time and EA hasn't figured out how to get the mobs to rez quickly enough to enable everyone to finish their mission in a timely fashion. It's also made everything run extremely slowly, loading time seems to take forever and things are really buggy. Hopefully, they get this fixed quickly. :)

Please let me know if you decide to start any toons on The Harbinger server and I can make sure to log on when you do to send you invites.

Hi all,

Can my two main characters get an invite?
My account name is SWTOR is LarsErica

The characters are:
Tschaikovsky (Republic)
Carolyn-cunnus (Empire)

I'll be on for a few hours now and probably tomorrow the largest part of the day (so between 12.00 hours and 20.00 hours dutch time - GMT+1 if I'm not mistaken)

Also I am a subscriber and have joined the KoS-channel.
Don't know if it matters, but I am on the Progenitor server (EU english rp).

Thanks in advance!

Seconding Darkaos for the three old space ones - Cure, Khitomer Accord, and Infected - and would happily admit my noobishness and need of training for Hive and all the ground missions.

Amazing idea!
I pretty much taught myself, and read up on it. Luckily I made a friend and he helped me outside of this fleet.
As I was to embarrassed to put my name down for an Elite as I didnt know what was what.
Even the abbreviations I didnt understand.
So Kudos to you Colby, for posting this. and being helpful
I woulda jumped at the chance!

Obviously I prefer the Elite versions but I am happy to assist in normal missions with new players that want to learn them and start to take advantage of the Omega/Romulan marks to get their elite gear.

Excellent! I went ahead and just logged in to the game to try to catch you so am online now (4:55pm est). I posted in the KoS channel so if you're on you should be able to see that and if you respond, we can get everyone invited. If not, I'll log in again tomorrow during this time to try again. :)

No need to apologise, in the UK we are currently in BST (GMT+1) so that would put you 5 hours behind.

And yes we are both subscribers & I have joined the KoS chat channel.

As stated we play between 8 - 11:30 pm that would be from 3 - 6:30pm

Great.. just great.. Now what am I going to use for an excuse when my BF asks "where my ring at?" It used to be: "gee I'd love to marry ya honey but.. it's against the law. What can I do my hands are tied." :P

I keed I keed of course this a wonderful event and a turning point in our struggle. Like women's suffrage and civil rights before it, you can't leave marriage equality up to the general populace. I hope the people who fought against our rights look back on all that they done one day and remember with shame and regret what they did in the name of their supposed morality.

You can always show solidarity towards those who live in religious zealot run states who are still treated as third class citizens and do a Brangalina thing ;-)

I am not sure my time zone converter is correct. It didn't have BST as a choice so I did the conversion using Europe/London. That would put you at 5 hours ahead of me which means you're already offline. :( I am in the US/Eastern time zone so please let me know if I used the correct area where you actually live for the conversion setting. If I didn't, please let me know what city I should use. I know there are many time zones in the UK and I am really bad at figuring out how the various world times compare. I do apologize for that, but as soon as I know when I need to log in, I can do so. It doesn't matter what time of day or night it is, I am usually playing overnight here anyway.

The other question I have is are you able to log in to our custom chat channel? (command line is: /cjoin kos) If you are a subscriber there's no problem but if you are F2P, you can't log in to any custom channel. It just becomes more difficult to send you both an invite but it can be done. I am just able to see when you log in to that channel and will know when to send the invite but we'll work those details out as soon as the time conversion is known. Thanks for your help with this and I apologize again for being a "stupid" American...

You're very talented, I used to build starships with warp nacelles and bridge stations too.

In the early 2000's, after I got the first LEGO millennium falcon set, I use the saucer parts to make a starship with a small build-in mini bridge with captain's seat, opps and conn. I even did a version with a shuttle bay in the back.

I also build a lego moc of the NX-Class Enterprise with build-in bridge in the saucer.

Those rock!

Thank you!

I've been watching Star Trek since I was a baby, and when I started getting legos when I 3, I began building ships with them. It was in my teens that I started getting really good at building star trek mocs. I use to build the bridge of the Enterprise-D and the ship itself, plus the Enterprise-E, and more.

My current mocs are a organic version of the Galaxy-Class with Venture-Class saucer, and a new variation of the bridge designs by Andy Proberts, with fully-curved couches for the opps and conn.

So for me, Star Trek and Legos fit together like peanut butter & jelly. =3
