I'm a new 50 and donated too many white doffs to a project during the bonus weekend - which was great, but left me at a disadvantage as I'm down 50+ duty officers. Maybe I should switch to one of the other fleets? What are the names and functions of these other Fleets? Are those Starbases full T5? Or is that the point, that they're not and need all these provisions?

Hey Lawson,

Are you having a hard time finding fleet projects to contribute to? Or just not earning enough fleet credit for what you're contributing to fleet projects?

If your toon is currently in Stonewall Fleet and you're having a hard time finding projects to contribute to, in order to earn fleet credits, we could arrange a transfer for your character to one of our less populated expansion fleets, such as the Stonewall Legion, where many more contribution opportunities exist.

If you're not having an issue contributing to projects but aren't getting enough fleet creds for what you're donating, dilithium contributions to projects will see the quickest return on investment. While you get a 1 fleet credit return per 1 dilithium donation. It gets costly, but is an easy way of getting larger quantities of fleet credits quickly.

Be sure to hit up the exchange, as people often sell fleet mark or flee credit bonus pools there, which increase the number of fleet marks or credits, as the case may be, when you play fleet mark missions or make fleet project contributions. These bonus pools drop from lockboxes on occasion, but if you don't routinely open boxes, they can be purchased for EC on the exchange.

HOW ARE YOU GETTING ALL THIS FLEET CREDIT

Seriously, I can barely scrape enough together for *one* console. Someone PM me the magic secret.

(Also I'm very interested to see the response to your build, I find my beam-boat a bit dull to play).

Fleet Galaxy X Dreadnought

OK, so I decided to give the Fleet Galaxy X a try on my sci toon (only currently max level non romulan fed character). I got a ton of help while on Teamspeak with a fleetie (Thanks again if you read this! I forgot who you were!) I just wanted to hear what other people have to weigh in regarding my build.

Right now I've got the complete solanae dyson set, the automated defense console, two of the +phaser/crit consoles from the fleet holdings, elite phaser banks 4 fore/4 aft, the two piece galaxy console set, monotanium alloy Mk 12, and 2 of the shield emitters from the embassy.

The only other complete set I have is the mk12 Jem'Hadar set (with the three ship console bonus!)

On all my other (ok 1) ship builds at max level I run beam arrays fore and matching turrets aft. On my romulan character I replaced the beam arrays fore with 5 dual beam banks with matching turrets aft. On that ship I have two of the fleet RCS turn consoles, so I'm able to keep them on target effectively.

So long story longer, I don't usually like running with torpedoes, as I generally prefer the graphic effects of beams over torpedoes.

Should I switch to dual beam banks fore and turrets aft? or keep my 8 beam array set and broadside? Any other hints/tips to maximize dps? I am a sci character, and don't know what to train my boffs...

That's why I don't like adding images to posted stories, it avoids a mess and the copyright/patent/trademark, etc., police lol. However, the images enhance the story beautifully -perhaps when posting a story with images, animations, video and/or any media a table of citations or table of references should accompany a story (somewhere towards the end)

(The images had nothing to do with it Zander. I read Ringworld when I was in middle school, learning about the Dyson Sphere from my father in the process, so I didn't need to even see the pictures to know what he was talking about. I simply feel that credit should be given where it is due. It's why I always feel uncomfortable when people talk about how "great" Thomas Edison was. I'm sure some folks might understand if I were to use an example that involved my branding one of Tesla's inventions with the name "Edison". It's not because of copyright/patent/trademark, it's about spreading misinformation which would not only prevent people from ever discovering Niven's Ringworld series, but have them saying things like "Dyson Ringworld" in mixed company, potentially causing public embarrassment if they are called out on it.

Also, there is never anything wrong with getting things right; the same can't be said about getting things wrong.)

The images are connected to the issue, the subject matter that you initially spoke about inferred an issue relating to copyright/patent/trademarks. I still believe that it's always good practice to include a table of references at the bottom of anything written in a public forum-just to be safe. Now, on your recent post, your point of view is focused on the issue of "misinformation" to which I can't comment on, that's a heavy allegation the requires subject matter experts (or more knowledgeable people in general) on Dyson spheres and Ringworld -it's a debatable issue that I leave to the aforementioned. However, I must note that the initial post was a fictional episode within the Star Trek universe where Ringworld may not necessarily come into play or even mentioned versus a dissertation, publication or general discussion on Dyson Spheres where I could expect due credit to be provided during the course or body of the subject.

Yeah, the game definitely isn't for everyone. And I think I'm exactly the opposite of you, I have 3 toons in The Secret World, which I think is an absolutely amazing game. I guess we both just have different likes and priorities when it comes to games. :)

Whoops, I realise that I said "Except ... Secret World" but I do have 3 characters (one for each society) in Secret World. Only one was taken to end game with several fun professions. It's a relatively fun game, but I stopped playing that one for entirely different reasons to SWTOR. Yeah the gameplay was homogeneous, but it was more the classic Funcom class hierarchy that had me and my friend leaving Secret World.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the game, Angel. There seems to be a lot of hostility against the game around the net. But I still enjoy it. It was enough to make me switch from being a long time playing member (since beta) of STO. But everyone has different tastes.

The content doesn't come quite as fast as I would like, but then again, I haven't exactly exhausted my options of content in the game yet. I'm still exploring several of the storylines of the classes with my altaholic self. I FINALLY finished Makeb on one of my 55s, but still haven't done Oricon or any of the added planets. I have yet to do an Operation and have barely scratched the surface of Starfighter.

Then again, my name is Kyle, and I have a problem...I'm an altaholic.

My friend and I went into the game with memories of SWG dancing through our heads. In many aspects the game was much much better, but in many aspects, it was much much worse. I have no real hostility towards the game, just a lot of disappointment.

I'm a massive altaholic, myself. I tend to very quickly fill all of my character slots with various different classes and races (except when gameplay is tedious, like World of Warcraft, or nearly homogeneous, like in Secret World.) I did it in SWTOR and was very excited about all of my toons. I played my first toon, my Bounty Hunter, all the way up to level 40something during beta but lost him to a wipe. In the next beta segment I played a jedi up to the second planet and then an agent up to the point I got the oh so beautiful agent ship... And got wiped again... As I was admiring my ship (they shut down for the wipe). During the next beta segment (segment?) I played a trooper and was very very pleased with him. I played him up to.. somewhere when the final wipe came. When the game finally launched, I made a Sith Assassin and played up to max level and then wanted to flip sides and play my awesome trooper again.

Two things dragged me down, though: After playing at least 5 different toons at least up to getting their ship, each one having nearly identical gameplay, I began to grow very bored very quickly with my 5th. Then a slap in the face when I got to Corellia: The vendor that sold the really gorgeous armour I bought during beta was gone and the armour he sold was now restricted to a higher level PvP reward. (Nothing too extravagent. It had a strip of cloth that came from beneath the chest plate, maybe an emblem on a strap across the chest, too. Reminded me of something from 40k.) I was also pretty bored with the type of Trooper (the heavy weapon/healy trooper) and didn't feel like starting all over again and going through all of that gameplay a 6th time.
I decided to shelve him and try the smuggler... And a Sith Marauder... And a bounty hunter... and an agent... And I just could not find fun in the near homogeneous gameplay. Obviously I've done it before in STO, but it was somehow different and more boring on an entirely new level. Perhaps it was the amount of detail in the quests and interactions. Maybe the clumsier, more primitive STO was less boring because it was clumsier and more primitive; I may never know.

The biggest nail in SWTOR's coffin, though, was the poke in the eye when it came to their version of Starfox. It had stuck in a lot of the testers craws when it had surfaced that, when questioned at a con about their poor choice of turning the space portion of Star Wars into a rail shooter, they had begun flinging insults at the people asking the questions and then any of the players who wanted a more SWG style space game. (Perhaps the people who asked the questions had been mean first, but the dev reaction was unwarranted.)

So when my friend professed his boredom to me and wanted to quit playing, I quit, too.

And that's the long long boring story of why I don't like SWTOR. :3

Don't ask me why, but I bought the pack.

...with precisely zero intention of flying the Gal-X.

Feel free to judge my spending choices. But there they are.

I did the same! I've bought all the three pack ships with no intention of flying them, I'd just like to think that someday over the rainbow I'll give them a try!

I would say something but....

I bought both the Nebula and the D'kyr for my one science character I never play and have no intention of playing outside of the occasional ship "giveaways".

(I did snag the image from something Niven-related, but Dyson beat Niven to the concept by more than a decade. 'Sides, as there's now a Dyson sphere in the game, I figure that term requires less explanation. :p )

(Very technically, I suppose, if by "concept" you meant orbital megastructure that surrounds a star. More precisely Dyson's concept was the sphere, Niven's Ringworld was the origin of the concept of a Ringworld. So saying Dyson Ring is about as accurate as saying Niven Discworld. It is incorrect and misleads people unfamiliar with the Ringworld. If someone is unfamiliar with a Niven Ring (very hard to imagine these days after Halo), but also has access to the internet, google/bing/wiki would not only offer a very quick explanation, but introduce them to a very good book. Mislabeling it a Dyson Ring has the unfortunate possibility that someone who doesn't know the Niven Ring will simply put 2 and 5 together, get 4 and never get to know the book which introduced the ring.

So use that Niven label, encourage people to grow and use their brains and curiosity, help them discover new and awesome things. :) )

=edit=

(Also, if you are afraid that some people will not only be ignorant of Niven and the Ringworld but also too lazy and/or cretinous to google it, you can also create a linked term, like: Niven Ringworld. Et Viola! Minds expanded! :D )
