My Thoughts on Season 9

April 23 2014
Haven't gotten to play with it much myself as it came out the day before I start my vacation, but what I have seen I'm liking. We can finally stop pretending like there is a war going on between the Feds and Klingons. That hasn't made sense for the longest time to me. Like Ereiid said I like that they are starting to tie things together into a plot line that can advance.

As for the "nerf", I mean, yes it is a nerf. However, I look at it this way. Before we had the rep system we didn't have any rep powers at all and we still played the game fine. If the devs didn't nerf the powers a bit all the new content that comes out would have to include enemies that were so overpowered just to keep up with us. The difference between an old player and a new player would have been too steep.

The graphics being redone was a bit of a pain. I had everything like I liked it and I'm the type of person that doesn't like my settings touched. Still I suppose if they wanted to update the graphics they had to reset everyones settings.

Haven't gotten to play with any of the new kits or the events. Hopefully when I do get a chance any bugs or issues will be worked. Hope to fly with the fleet when I get back from vacation.

Fly casual people.

My Thoughts on Season 9

April 23 2014
It's not even been a full day, so we can qualify these at least as first impressions. I've taken care to minimize any legitimate spoilers.

Agree? Disagree? Discuss!

1) 'Surface Tension' - I think most all of us are gonna agree that the new FE is an unmitigated success. First and foremost, plotlines are finally bloody advancing. I'll admit to concerns that the last several seasons were starting to bog down. Spending time with modestly developed races and adversaries that had been cribbed from single appearances in the source material gave me concern that the storyline was going to wind up in the crufty weeds. It's been taking some epic wellsprings of faith in the Devs that the story wasn't going to wind up as third-rate fanfic. Well the S9 FE finally saw some quality payoff for that faith. So kudos to them.

2) Kit revamps - I haven't had the opportunity to test 'em out across all my toons, but so far, I'm going to say secret buff.

3) Trait revamps - I've fully ascribed to the Devs' argument that adding new rep traits has been gradually overpowering players, limiting how much more extensively they could draw the rep system. So, yes, it's a nerf. Let's call a spade a spade. But it's one that I endorse.

4) Remastered Borg and Undine arcs - I recognize that the streamlining process has improved the story immensely. However, it does mean less net content, particularly in a storyline that's increasingly central to the game at this point. That having been said, the new maps are exquisitely rendered. I'm going to miss at least some of those missions, though. I'm not clear why 'State of Q' had to go, since it was essentially a tangential one-off anyways.

5) New Queued Events - Mixed bag thus far. I like the design intentions - but am a little underimpressed by the execution, particularly for content that's essentially designed to be repetitive grinding.

You are quite welcome, Andrea/Janeway. As I previously mentioned, I'm not one to express myself but I figure I would make an exception or two. You have a friend in me, even after the forcefield holding that bun together gives out (it's already showing extreme signs of duress) and the coffee has gone dried. I have so much fun teaming up with you on STFs and chatting it up on TeamSpeak.

And Datura, my love, a belated Happy Birthday! You were missed in your absence. You got a friend in here, even after you've exhausted all nine of your lives in the battlezone. Qa'pla! (I would of translated this in Klingon, but Google Translate hasn't quite caught up yet.)

Overall, the Fleet is an awesome tapestry of diversity with individuals from every walk of life. A lot of the individuals I have met recently has definitely been a positive one. And that means you too, Kimmy (@kimilith?) You all rock!

Mi'raj/Tal'shiara sighing out. May the Force be with you. (Dammit, wrong IP again)

Yep I couldn't agree more. K is an awesome lady. I consider her to be one of my bestest mates in the fleet (as well as many others). I had been playing STO for nearly three years before I ever joined a fleet, my reason for joining was Brandon, I never intentionally wanted to stay to be honest, but I did and I'm glad I did. Ive had laughs with so many in the fleet, and no matter your skill level, your ship build or any inexperience there is always those in the fleet willing to hold your hand a guide you. I would like to think I fall into that category too. So if you ever have a question or need guidance, please fon't be afraid to ask.

Looks like fun. I would love a version with all the main Canon ship options as well. Hell. A side of STO letting you wander your own ship via Ocolus might even be good fun.

I do remember the Virtual Voyager bit from Elite Force, or rather its expansion pack.

On a related note the Dev Kit 2 of Oculus is coming out in July. $350usd but Oculus themselves still ask regular users to hold off for the Retail version which will include built in audio etc.

Just thought I'd pop in and say that although I wasn't seen in the chat, I did watch/listen to this livestream (I just couldn't type because I am not and will not sign up on yet another website just for chat permissions.

This livestream was exactly what it purported to be - a good introduction to the basics of PvP - and really, a lot of what was said can also apply to PvE too. Even having played since release, I wasn't aware of that keybind download.

Also just a note that I was able to hear and understand everyone who spoke in that livestream, which may not sound like much to most people, but for me was impressive. My hearing is overall "so-so", but when it comes to voices, I have a *lot* of trouble picking up people talking a lot of the time (ie/ some voiceovers in games, most dialogue in movies, and even some people when I'm face to face talking). I had no trouble at all with this livestream.

Good job guys!

MIRAJ! Coming home from family time and settling into my gaming chair and seeing this message ( ON MY BIRTHDAY!! ) no less, is one of the best presents I could have imagined! You really don't know how big my heart feels!
It's funny because I was talking with @chemistryset this week, urging her to apply for the open PVE captain position because I really do think she's unwavering in her skill at the game but also in her undying ability to pop up and help you in STO whenever and wherever you ask ( EVEN IF she's on the other side of the galaxy doffing! ).
It's people like you @Miraj and @chemistryset that make playing STO worthwhile. It is a MMO remember, solo is a necessary evil at times, but it's also great when you can find someone who shares your passion for a good sparring in the BATTLEZONE or some swift slices through some borg spheres :woohoo:
Like you pointed out, there's so many facets to this game it's almost unending what you can unearth from the wealth provided to us by the hard working DEV's! Just when I think I've seen it all, there's a new part of the game I come to know and love ... that's what makes the galaxy so fun, there's nothing but new things to learn and discover just like the shows and movies have come to teach us about the vast expanse of space!
To that end, I hope to keep discovering with those of you I have found friendship with. There's nothing better then that ;)
Sometimes I can be brash and shoot from the hip; but that's just me. At the core of it, I do have the desire to help my fleetmates play better and have MORE fun. Community is where you feel growth in the heart and @miraj you have inspired me and @chemistryset you keep it pragmatic and real and you both remind me how to be a better person !!!
There are many others who do far more than I to keep the flame and for that I am constantly grateful. I am also indebted to a great many names in Stonewall that I will not list but you know who you are :P
I only hope that I can thank each of you in a way that is special like this message was to receive for me.
Glory to your house and discovery to your fleet. WE WILL BUILD A NEW HOME!

Your efforts are appreciated ( as they say in tau dewa ).

[SimCity] Greenwhich Region [16-Slot]

*necro thread!*

Finally picked up Sim City on their site for 20 bucks and it included the new expansion 'Cities of Tomorrow' All the mini expansions are also on sale so if anyone else was thinking of trying it now would be a good time.

I was also wondering if anyone still played this? I know it had a REALLY rough launch and with the bugs and what not I'm surprised it is still going. But since I love the sim city games I figured I'd give it a try. :)

Gravitos69 is my Origin handle

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone else still plays on this region. I don't play SimCity anymore and don't even have the game installed. There are a few other people in the community that I've seen playing as of late though. Maybe someone will invite you to their region?

Kind of freaking out right now. Been a Civ fanatic since the very first DOS based game (yes, I know, the fanatic unit was introduced in Civ II). Didn't usually bother with some of the Civ spin-offs, but this looks really good. Always wished we could extend the game past Alpha Centauri (without mods or scenarios).

"Virtual Voyager Bridge Now Available for Oculus Rift
The highly-anticipated Oculus Rift virtual reality system, which has already been shown to have such creative uses as controlling aerial drones, immersive therapy for the sick, and even experimental body-swapping, has now been extended to the world of Trek with a new digital demo for touring the bridge of the USS Voyager.

Oculus developer tmek released the demo on Saturday, which allows the user to walk through the Voyager bridge, examine the many display consoles and stations, and even activate a few familiar audio cues from the series.

The last major virtual Voyager venture was Star Trek Voyager - Elite Force, the first-person shooter game released by Activision nearly fifteen years ago.

Oculus, which began through a Kickstarter campaign which raised nearly $2.5 million, made headlines last month when the startup was bought by Facebook in a $2 billion acquisition." - TrekCore

What's pvp?

pvp = player vs player. Not an integrated part of Star Trek Online, in that you can play through the whole game without ever encountering it. There are special queues to enter that allow you to play pvp. There are different types of pvp missions, but generally speaking, two teams of players fight against each other, and the first team to get X number of kills wins. I don't do pvp, but there are a number of fleet members who enjoy it and who would be more than happy to introduce you to it, if you want.
